What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Sites use them to remember things between page loads — a setting you chose, or an anonymous ID used to count visitors.
Similar technologies, like local storage, do the same job. Where this page says "cookies", it covers those too.
What this site uses
Strictly necessary — always on
One item of local storage records your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page. It contains only the word granted or denied. It holds nothing that identifies you, is never sent to a server, and cannot be used to track you.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
yvc-consent-v1 | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics | Until you clear your browser data |
Analytics — off unless you accept
If you accept, we load Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people find useful and how they reach the site. This helps us decide what to write about the work we do.
Until you accept, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all. This is stricter than most sites: many load Google's script immediately and merely tell it not to write cookies, which still sends a request to Google. Here, if you decline or ignore the banner, your browser never contacts a Google server because of this site.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_V4VFHJYE5N | Google Analytics | Maintains session state | 2 years |
When analytics is enabled, we have configured it to:
- Anonymise IP addresses
- Disable Google Signals (no cross-device tracking, no advertising audiences)
- Disable ad personalisation
We do not use advertising, remarketing, social media or A/B testing cookies on this site.
Changing your choice
Use the cookie settings link — here, or in the footer of every page — to bring the banner back and change your answer at any time.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which applies across every site you visit.
Hosting
This site runs on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes technical request data — including your IP address — to serve pages and block attacks. This is not done with cookies and is needed to deliver the website at all, so it is not something the banner can turn off.
